ISSTORY






Donald J. Trump is neither Lenin nor a czar.  He is a catalytic function, an unhinged and very dangerous function that is loved by millions of American citizens.  He is beyond law, beyond lies and truth, beyond reason and insanity.  He is merely beyond.  In the American imagination of 2017, President Trump is the amoral parent of isstory.



In the domains of political and cultural thought, isstory displaces herstory and history. The simplicity of isstory is devastating, leaving the mind in an implacable state of gasping.  Isstory has no gender and every gender that can be imagined.  Isstory has no location and exists everywhere.  Isstory prevails as an elegant equation ---- cosmic evil =cosmic violence.



We are slowly recognizing that isstory is the great MF (mother/father) of a great and terminal revolution and reconstruction in the United States of America and other geopolitical sites.  Isstory is a tantalizing problem in physics that is seeking terms of engagement.



You do not see, hear, or read isstory.  You merely sense the presence of isstory.  In the cognitive motions of 2017, isstory fingers a bloodless question across the skies:



IS CONSTANT TERRORISM THE REWARD FOR BEING HUMAN, OR SHALL TERRORISM ULTIMATELY EVAPORATE INTO THE GASES OF LIFE-ENHANCING REVOLUTIONS?



An alternative question is:



SHALL NATURE PURGE CAPITALISM FROM THE EARTH?



These questions and their delayed, non-holy replies are not trivial. They are the stuff of isstory.

Reading Notes for September 23, 2019 Eighteen years after the tragedy of 9/11 as I re-read Amiri Baraka's "Somebody Blew Up America" (2001), two meanderings occur: 1) a chance temptation to ask what the term "pro-Semitic" can mean in the contexts of (a) Israeli and world politics and (b) to what extent the amount of foreign aid the USA donates to Israel truly matters, and 2) a more focused temptation to ask if Morrison's Playing in the Dark sheds light on the motives that govern projects devoted to discussions of slavery beginning with 1619. I suspect those projects are at once very literary and very political.
